Comparisons

As of Saturday I'm 11 weeks along and almost through my 1st trimester. I know I've heard a hundred times that "every pregnancy is different," but I didn't realize how much that could be, especially for the same woman! I feel like everything has been so different this time around. I was seriously sick with Christopher (I mean not keeping anything down for 3 days sick) and this time it has been a lot less and more so in the evening (with Christopher the mornings were the worst). The cravings have been nuts! I had NONE with Christopher and now I'm craving crazy. Chocolate has been the biggest thing: chocolate ice cream, brownies, hershey kisses, reeses, chocolate milk, chocolate bars...I can't get enough. My skin was great with Christopher and now it has been terrible. I normally use Proactive, but once I got pregnant with Christopher I stopped because my skin was great; even my family noticed a change. Now the Proactive is doing nothing, I have to retouch every picture I'm in even if I have makeup on.
I've started showing this time much sooner. At 11 weeks I'm the size of how I was at 17 weeks last time. I think it's because your skin/muscles have already been stretched. What I'm curious to see is if I carry the same as last time. With Christopher I carried very forwards and in the middle (not high or low). I hope this post doesn't come off as complaining because I'm not, I'm just surprised with how differently things have been the 2nd time around. It's cool in a way because I've realized before this baby is born that every child is different (even siblings) and manifest that difference in the womb. I'd love to hear other mom's stories (even if your kids are grown)! Were your pregnancies the same, similar or completely different? What was the most striking difference? Please share!

  1. I cannot yet speak of a second pregnancy- but I sure hope that the most contrast between baby girl and next baby is no sickness! wishful thinking indeed- lr

  2. I thought you said once (in a previous post) that food cravings while pregnant are made up excuses to eat crazy things. You don't believe that anymore?

  3. haha! i guess they are real, but still shouldn't be an excuse to eat whatever. i think that's what bothers me about cravings that women just use it as an excuse to eat a lot and eat really unhealthy. i definitely crave things, but i rarely eat what i crave. i want to keep my food choices healthy and weight under control.

  4. yes and about the gestational diabetes and all that can occur. It was the access amount of food and yes it is true that some women do take advantage of being pregnant (they have confessed to me that they just didn't take care of themselves)

  5. yeah, there are a whole host of problems (like you said) with the over eating during pregnancy. it's a big problem, so much so that OBs have revised the recommended weight gain during pregnancy for a NORMAL size woman to be 25lbs and that's it!!! for women who start out overweight it's even less. it just drives me nuts when i'm at my OB and i hear a woman say "oh these pregnancy cravings caused me to gain 45lbs" as if they don't have any control over what they eat.
