Super Walmart

I've tried food shopping there twice and I'm sorry to say it just doesn't work for me. It's a great place for baby items, paper products, cleaning supplies, and etc. Usually, they have the best price on an item. However, their grocery section doesn't even come close to "super." Somehow, whenever I go there to food shop I spend more and get less of what I want. Their bakery items are limited and tasteless (I bought some chocolate swiss rolls that tasted like paper), they don't have any other slice of chicken other than chicken breasts, their produce isn't fresh and they don't have a big selection of food in general (couldn't find a bag of frozen mixed veggies). Their lunch meat? I don't even go there because I've been warned by an employee how bad it is. Everything is cheap, but what good is that if it's not what I want or not fresh/tasteless? Maybe I'm too picky a cook? It's also a 15min drive for me, I can't let my purse out of my sight, and the store is a mess (it's a brand new Super Walmart too) which just makes it a bad shopping experience overall. I go there to buy diapers and dry goods because their price is unbeatable and I figured I could "kill two birds with one stone" if I got my groceries there as well. Anyway, I was just wondering how other people feel about their food market? I know it's cheap, but are you pleased otherwise? Is this just me?

  1. As you know, I HATE grocery shopping as it is, and I basically have a panic attack when I try to do it at Walmart! I agree about the disorganization, lack of selection, tastlessness and lack of freshness. I too tried to think about it as killing 2 birds with one stone, but I just ended up going to Giant then to get my produce. I think it's a good one-stop-shop place if you're having a BBQ, but not for everyday healthy dinner options. So no, you're not the only one!

  2. I am pleased enough with the brand new one 4 mins from me. I do find that the selection of grocery items is poor, yet I have been pleased enough with the produce. I dont really buy bakery goods. I find that I love killing two birds with one stone by picking up our grocery, paper goods, diapers, and random house supplies. Yet they don't have the full grocery selection that I need so for me I personally go there about every other grocery shopping trip. I know some people hate all walmart stores and wouldnt ever go in one, yet in general I am pleased with the new stores and all that I am able to accomplish in one unseating of the baby.

  3. ania- the panic attack thing cracks me up!

lr- i think i will only go once a month for paper products and baby goods. i'm not going to attempt food shopping there even though it's tempting bc i going there in the 1st place.

good to know i'm alone in my thoughts :)

  4. I have a love hate relationship with Walmart. As a corporation I hate it. They are the most uncharitable big business that I am aware of. I also don't like how messy and crowded the store gets. Out Superwalmart has the hit and miss on the food selection. I don't go very often but I do continue to go because they have the best prices for the things I want. And if I am there to buy home goods and we need food I will buy it there. However our main food shopping is done elsewhere.

  5. I was there yesterday and reminded once again how poor the variety of items is. They don't carry many different brands or flavors of items. That does get really annoying. Funny what you mentioned about your purse. Where ever I go I am always frightened it will be taken. Such a scary thought. So for me I usually carry around a really little purse so that I can carry them around under my arm all the time. ~LR

  6. yes, you hit the nail on the head with lack of different brands. for example, they only sell lay potato chips and nothing else. i guess that's how they keep their prices so low (bc they don't have to worry about stuff not selling).
i'm not as worried as i should be about my purse. i never carry cash, so other than my license and debit card that's all that is in there!
