Crock-Pot Whole Chicken Recipe

I've been wanting to try to cook a whole chicken for awhile. They were on sale this week 88 cents a pound, so I picked one up. I'll admit I was nervous about the cleaning/cooking of a whole chicken (so gross). I followed this recipe because it seemed simple. All you do it clean, season the chicken, and put it in the crock pot. No liquids are needed because the chicken produces it's own juices (I was really skeptical about this, but it worked). If you add some onion and celery to the pot the juices actually make a good broth too.

The juice appeared after 3-4hrs. The chicken was so moist, literally fell off the bone! I love this recipe and definitely plan on making it again since it was so easy and made enough for two dinners.

  2. We have the same crock pot, LoL! Glad you made it through the cleaning process. I still haven't braved whole poultry cooking yet (not a huge fan of dark/leg meat or the cleaning process). It's so economical like you said, so it'll only be a matter of time before I give it a go myself. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  3. I have yet to purchase a crock pot, but have seen the one you have around. Do you like it? What size? I too have not conquered the whole chicken cleaning process... I need to though because I LOVE making chicken pot pie, chicken noodle soup and leftover chicken sandwiches!
Congrats on the chicken! I would have been skeptical about the juice part too.
