Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Sorry for such a long blog break! We traveled to Chris' side of the family for the holiday weekend. They live in Lancaster which is a two hour trip from us. Packing for the trip really got me thinking how easy things are right now with the boys. We don't need to pack formula, baby food, pacifiers or a pack n play anymore (or many diapers since Andrew is the only one using them). We could even get away without taking the stroller since they both walk. It's nice to be out of the little baby phase...for now.

Saturday Chris took me to a cool local store that's an old mill. It sells country home decor.
Part of the store is set up in the house next to the mill. It looks like a home, but everything in it is for sale.
We went to Hershey Park on Sunday and even though it was very hot the boys had lots of fun. Christopher can ride most kiddie rides himself and Andrew could do some with a parent. They both totally get the concept of rides being fun now.
Christopher was obsessed with the trains. He LOVES trains, and Thomas the train, and talking about trains (get the idea?) :0 He didn't want to get off the train rides, he'd try to stay seated on the ride after it was over and say "One more time, one more time!"
It was SO hot that day, so we spent sometime in the boardwalk area (splash pools). I don't have any pictures of that though since there was water spraying everywhere in that section.
Sunday night Chris tried to surprise me with dinner at the Hershey hotel, but I overheard a voice message about it earlier in the day :) We had the BEST Filet Mignon, asparagus and mashed potatoes (everything is locally grown/organic). The hotel is beautiful with fountains, ballrooms, even an outdoor ice skating rink but I didn't bring my camera. I'm literally still so upset about missing such a great photo opportunity...ugh!!! After dinner we went to one of the balconies that overlooks the park (which is all lit up at night) and sat by tiki light talking about silly stuff.

Monday we visited Chris' Dad and the kids swam in their pool. I didn't go in the pool as much because I was so worried about getting sunburn before my sister's wedding. We also went to Mt. Gretna for dinner, but I don't have any pictures from that part of the trip either :( Promise I'll be better next time!

  1. This is a weekend almost straight out of my childhood summers! I grew up in a suburb of Harrisburg, so Hershey was about 30 minutes away. The art festival at Mt. Gretna is one of my favorite things to do with my family. I have a number of friends who have gotten married at the Hotel Hershey; It's so beautiful! Sounds like you all had a wonderful Memorial Day. :)

  2. I'm worried about tan lines too, but I am getting them even with massive amounts of sunscreen applied regularly. Sarah is getting married in August, so I have a long road ahead of me. Luckily I'm not in a strapless dress!
That's so sweet that Chris tried to surprise you with dinner!! I'm glad you two had some couple time! Overall, the entire weekend sounds lovely!!
