It's Not Always Rainbows...

I don't usually post mommy stories like this one, but I figured it would be good to mix it up for once. Yesterday was another typical pretty good day, until the kids got up from their nap! First Christopher woke up wet soaked from a potty accident. With this heat wave, the kids have been drinking water like camels. He's only ever had one other accident so I know I shouldn't complain, but he was drenched. Looked like he went swimming. I take off all of his clothes and give him a bath all the while Andrew's crying from his crib.

I go get Andrew and realize his diaper is really wet and start to change him when Christopher comes up and hits him for no reason. Without thinking, I put Christopher in time out and leave the wet diaper on the ground. Fatal error because our dog is notorious for snatching and shredding diapers. He hides behind the couch where I can't get to him and shreds it making a huge mess, and Andrew's still crying.

Chris wasn't getting home till late, so I figured on just making pizza so it be an easy dinner. The kitchen floor was dirty, so I decided to steam mop it while dinner cooked and Andrew continued to scream (he was inconsolable). I finish and give Andrew his dinner. He touches one piece and it's hot, so in his cranky mood goes to throw it on the clean floor. I dash to get it, miss (it lands on the floor making a mess) and drop Christopher's pizza on the floor in the process.

I go to put the kiddies to bed and Andrew's still crying and getting into trouble. I go to stop Andrew and the dog snatches his clean diaper and starts shredding AGAIN. At this point I'm so stressed I go to call my sister and ask her if her fiance doesn't sleep over for the night (he's taking classes in the area), and as soon as I pick up the phone I hear him knocking at the door....Ever have a day like this?

  1. Had days like this A LOT when I nannied. I even remember one winter day when all the kids wanted to do was go sledding/play in the snow. NOTHING went right that day and it was topped off by me trying to cram the youngest's toes into too small snowboots.(His Dad hadn't had time to take him to get new ones for the season yet) As I was struggling and sweating, the neighbor rang the doorbell. I was in tears. She took one look at me and was like, it's ok, I'll just take them, you look like you need some alone time. I was SO embarassed, but it was the best cup of hot chocolate I had to myself ever!

  6. You are stonger than I am. Tears would have been flowing (most likely). If they weren't I guarantee you that when my husband walked through the door that night I would have lost it. Those days are totally normal though.
