Evangeline's Baptism

Evangeline Marie was baptized on November 6th. We belong to a large parish that usually has 8-10 baptisms each week, luckily Evangeline was the only one being baptized that day!
It was nice because it was a private ceremony and it didn't take as long since there was only one baby.
Someone asked on facebook, so I'll answer here too. Normally baptisms are done during Sunday Mass, but in our parish they have them as a separate ceremony because of how many babies there are each week.
She wore our family christening gown which I purchased when Christopher was a baby. I know it's a dying tradition, but I love having all of our babies wear the same gown. I'd love to get it framed or have it hang on display whenever we do a "girl" room.
I also like to have our children baptized as soon as we are able, so they can be a part of our spiritual family. In our faith parents can have their children baptized whenever they like (although most do it before a year). There are also adult baptisms once a year on Easter Sunday through the RCIA program.
We had a small get together at our house afterward with sandwiches and cake :)

  1. I absolutely adore that you have your children wear the came christening gown - when I have children they will wear the gown that my sisters and I were baptized in (I think, I can't imagine wanting to share the gown with however many kids they'll have - but for now, that's the plan). I agree that it's a dying tradition but at the same time I'm okay with that because it makes the tradition all the more special for the people who choose to keep it alive. Evangeline looks beautiful!

Oh, and I'm obsessed with the boys sweaters! They're so cute - very preppy!

  3. Dreamer-My mom had the same tradition. When I did it with my boys though a lot of people were like "Why is he wearing a dress?" Haha! My MIL got the sweaters for them from Janie & Jack.

  4. What a great tradition! She's such a sweet and pretty little one. And I can't believe how many people have their babies baptized at once! In my church, it was always a private ceremony with only one baby being baptized.

  5. She looks beautiful. Our parish also does a baptism ceremony following mass. Owen was baptized this past Sunday but was one of three babies baptized that day.. they were all boys! It was our first time taking him to mass and he actually did really well. Makes me a lot less nervous about taking him to mass from now on.

  7. Your post inspired me to finally get my act together, join the local parish (I never changed churches when I moved from home because I would just go to mass and such at La Salle), and start the process to get Elliott baptized. It won't be until the spring, since my sister cannot come up until then (other than Christmas, and that's just one more thing...). He has godparents, and I'll probably use the gown my mom used for us. Thanks for that extra push I needed...I'm such a procrastinator sometimes.

  8. The tradition of wearing the same christening gown is something that I really want to do. My younger siblings all wore the same gown, but I was already walking when I got baptized, so I wasn't able to partake in their tradition. I do however have my little gold bracelet from when I was baptized!

Evangeline is beautiful, just like her mama!

  10. How precious! I love that you are using the same baptismal gown for everyone. If God blesses us with children one day, I hope to do the same thing! Would you mind asking precious Evangeline to pray for us that God would bless us with a little child? I do believe that children can offer up silent but very powerful prayers to God, since they are so close to Him in their purity. Thank you!

  12. I was waiting for the post on her baptism, I love baptisms! It's so hard for me to understand 7-8 baptisms in your parish a week! In mine they only do baptisms twice a year and at those we may only have 4-5 babies , how beautiful so many a week in yours! I cannot wait until we have children and they're baptized. I've finally convinced my fiance to allow our boys to be baptized in a gown. I'm planning on having my wedding dress turned into a baptism gown.
