First Date

I don't think I ever talked about this on my blog before, but I wanted to share the awkwardness of my first date with Chris. So if you remember we met online (from a Catholic dating site) when we both were in college. My mom thought it would be "fun" to create a profile for me...We somehow started e-mailing, then IMing and eventually wanted to meet in person.

I mentioned that I "liked" bowling and Chris interpreted that as meaning I was "good" at bowling (I'm not). He asked to bring a friend? I said okay since I was too scared to go alone too. I brought my sister. He also brought bowling balls and his own bowling shoes. My sister and I laughed about that the whole way home in the car; who owns bowling shoes!?! We bowled terribly and I think he ended up with a score close to 300. The conversations were a little awkward too, mostly small talk and I ended the date being slightly disappointed about that. Maybe we had one of those connections that were great over the internet, but not in real life. Anyway, we decided to go on a second date which was much better and the rest is history :)

What was your first date with your significant other like? Did you hit it off right away?

  1. You two are such a great looking couple!

M and I's first date wasn't awkward, but nerve-wrecking :) Details to come!

  2. My first date with my husband wasn't all that awkward because he talked almost the entire time. On about our 5th date, he tried to tell me that he was an extremely quiet person. My response was, "All evidence to the contrary." :)

Love your blog! Found it via Grace's blog.

Me and my hubby met when we were 16 on the first day of 11th grade. We had MANY awkward moments during those first few years! :)

  4. Haha, yeah CJ always kicked everyone's butts at youth group bowling nights...I thought the same thing about having his own shoes/ball, LoL.

We did a double first date too, but with his sister and her boyfriend. I was nervous at the beginning, but we had such a great time that we decided to go see a movie just the two of us afterwards. By the end of the night he took me to a remote location for a walk. It was really remote and the thought of him attacking me back there did run through my head. (I watch way too many CSI shows, LoL). Anyway, we shared a first kiss and as you said, the rest was history. What a fun idea for a post!!! I may borrow, but only if it's ok with you.

  6. Ah that's too funny! My first date with my husband went a little differently. Let's just say we ended up on his couch making out. Eesh. Almost five years later though and the spark is still there. ;-)

In a few words, I was a third wheel and he was the only guy friend who had a free few hours so that I wouldn't be a third wheel...oh and it all happened in San Diego at a risk and insurance conference! Details to come!

  12. That is such a cute story! I probably would have laughed about a guy having his own bowling shoes too. I actually work with a guy that bowled in college...like on a team. I didn't even know there was such a thing! haha My first date with my husband was to a Sadie Hawkins dance when we were in high school. It was so quiet because neither one of us knew what to say! haha Good memories though!

  16. We never know what to count as our "first date": It could be the night we went out with La Salle kids to a bar, and ended up kissing. Or it could be the first time I asked him out to my best friend's 21st birthday. Or it could be (and this is the one I will probably tell my kids) the first day we spent together as boyfriend and girlfriend. A wonderful day at Ocean City, NJ sunning, eating, and laughing.

We'll go with that last one. :) I'll probably post about this soon. I'm glad you and Chris decided to go on that second date! I don't know if I would have been brave enough.

  17. We still to this day have no idea why we went on a second date. I think because we had such a good connection online and spent so much time talking that we felt it was worth one more shot. First dates are tricky because it's hard to be yourself on the first date (your nervous, etc). It's hard to know how much is due to nervousness or that the other person just isn't right for you.

  18. This is too cute! I think awkwardness sometimes means that there really is a connection...as in, you are so hoping it goes well that you're not just your everyday self.

My honey and I didn't really have a first date. We knew each other all four years of college, and when we both moved to DC, we hung out for about 2 months before he asked me out. That next time we hung out WAS awkward. I was so shy about showing affection, but he wasn't, so it was all good. I still remember the first time he put his arm around me!
