Worst Date

I thought it would be fun to mix it up with some random posts. Today I'm going to tell you about my worst date.

I was a freshman in college and pretty naive when it came to guys and the games they play. I was interested in an athlete (mistake #1). He would constantly go back and forth, say we should go out but never pick a date, or suggest going out and cancel. Finally, he sort of asked me out on a date or so I thought....

He refused to pick me up, so I drove to school to meet him (annoying). I show up to see he bought a guy friend (frat guy/aka: another player). We get into one car to go see a boring movie. Sit through the boring movie while they make dumb jokes. I had to laugh when I saw a similar movie date scene in Twilight.

On our way back to school we get horribly, horribly lost and go in circles. All the while scared to death because the guy's fuel tank is on empty and there's not a gas station in sight (these were the days before smartphones and GPS). His car stalls, eventually restarts. We find a gas station, but the guy hops a curb and messes up his old front bumper. We get back and I'm relieved to head home. His frat friend asks if I want to come back and hang at his apartment and watch a movie. I wasn't that naive:0

Love to hear about your worst date experiences!

  2. I have a worst "Attempted" date experience. I was in high school and waiting patiently for my date to pull into the driveway. He did, but instead of getting out of his car and coming to the door, he called the house phone. My dad answered, hung up, walked outside and told my date to leave. His daughter only dated gentlemen. At the time, I was mortified...my "date" was a coworker that I had to face the next morning. Now, I am glad my dad didn't let me date him. Poor Judgement on my part.

P.S. MJ, your date would have freaked me out. Glad all turned out ok.

    1. Yep, Sarah my parents are the sane way with pick ups for dates. I didn't think it was a big deal, but little things like that speak volumes on courtesy and respect.

This reminds me that I later ran into the frat guy on the boardwalk a year or so later when I was handing out chasity info for an organization :0

      Thanks for sharing your story!

  3. Oh yikes, hopefully he has matured by now. I've actually had a lot of great dates but the one that sticks out is going with a group of friends and seeing my huge crush come walking in with another girl. In my mind he liked me, I was young and somewhat delusional I guess. But 6 years later we started dating and now we've been married for almost 16 years! I am still totally crazy about him.

  4. Hahaha that's terrible! But also humorous to look back on. I'm not sure if I've ever had a "worst date" per say because I always try to find the funny in all of them... I think the one that sticks out the most was when we're sitting at the bar waiting for our dinner table, and we're talking and I go:

"I'm a writer. I'm going to write many novels in my life."

His response: "I don't like to read. Words are boring to me."

And that was the end of that :)

  5. I can't believe he refused to pick you up. What a jerk!

I've had tons of awkward and horrible first dates, thankfully I've been able to forget the details involving most of them. :)

  6. Hahaha, wow. I can't think of a specific bad date, most of them were just awkward, but I definitely used to crush on the bad boys who were jerks much like the guy in your story. Oh well. The bad apples just make us appreciate how wonderful our husbands are now.

  8. Homecomming Freshman year of High School, hands down. Got asked to go by this guy in my Bio class only to find out he started dating my friend a week before the dance. I told him I was going to go alone, but after he begged me on the phone to go with him I agreed (stupid, stupid, stupid). Of course he danced with his girlfriend the whole night and only danced to the last song with me. Oh and I also was sporting a really bad self done manicure. I peeled the nails off under the table at dinner and left them in a pile on the floor. I still wonder what the busboys thought that night :/

  9. P.S. Would you mind if I did a similar post? Only with your permission of course. You always have such fun ideas. Reliving my bad date made me realize I have a pic of it somewhere and oddly, I'd like to share...

  10. This is too funny!! Awful that you had to live through it, but bad dates can make for the best stories! My worst was with my best guy friend who had always liked me in high school. He knew I was not interested at all, but when we were home from college he asked me to dinner to catch up. He had a girlfriend so I figured he had finally moved on and was ready to be friends...I was wrong!! He professed his love to me the whole dinner as I awkwardly sat there, and the insisted we go to some cartoon movie he wanted to see and when I said no, thank you, he told me he already had tickets! All in all it was 5 hours of awkward misery...still makes me cringe to think about!

and just for the record...not ALL frat guys are that bad!(although there are quite a few...) At least, I have one certain one who isn't ;)

  11. i was out on a date with this guy in college. he got SO drunk that he passed out in a cold sweat. I had no idea that he was drunk and thought he fell deathly ill(talk about naive)...

so i left him there to die, hahaha. actually i think i left him a little note saying that i left cuz he got sick or something.
