Fake Blogs

It's been awhile since I've done a random post and I'm always torn if I should even do them....Anyway wondering if anyone out there has experienced a "fake" blog? Almost a year ago, I started following a blog called Life Down the Rabbit Hole. It seemed okay, the lady was expecting her first baby and most of her posts centered around that and moving to a new house. Interesting enough, but I was curious to know more. Virtually no info on the author or pictures.

Then the inconsistencies began that got stranger and stranger. First, she said she was expecting a boy and a certain number of weeks along. Then several weeks later, claimed there was a mistake and she was expecting a girl and that her ultrasound showed she was 3 months behind. Now, ultrasounds aren't exact, but certainly not off by 3 months! No maternity or belly photos, except for a belly shot with no head or other body features showing. Next up, she said she was taking an international trip two weeks before she was due! Being pregnant 3 times before, I know they won't let you fly that close to your due date.

After she gets back she claims, she's getting contractions and writes a post about it. Later that week she blogs that the baby arrived (a girl), but she didn't do the math and wrote the baby's birthday as two days before she claimed to be having contractions? When she was confronted by confused readers, she removed the contraction post. She also changed her due date around so many times, that by her last recorded post she would have been somewhere around 28 weeks along. Her baby would have been severely premature, yet the photo of the baby she posted looked big and healthy.

By this point her readers were going crazy, confronting her about all these inconsistencies. What bothered me the most was that I think she was stealing photos of someone's baby! She never responded to any of the comments and stopped blogging. Then the blog was deleted! Not sure what happened or what was true or false? The only thing that made sense to me was that she maybe adopted a baby, hence why the gender and dates were all over the place? Anyone else experience a fake/crazy blog or a blog that stole content from the internet?

  2. Wow, that is INSANE! I remember you mention this to me on one of my posts about watermarking pictures. I haven't come across a fake blog (that I know of) but one of my friends who has a food blog had someone steal her pictures and pass them off as her own. I would be absolutely furious if anyone ever stole a picture of Natalie. Really makes me think about what I post. However if you go to Google you can do an imagine search of a specific photo and see anywhere that it's posted on the web.

  3. That is crazy and creepy!
On my June 2009 Birth Board on babycenter.com there was a woman who had quite a story about how her sister had died in a car accident and she ended up adopting her niece who had survived. Then she ended up having her own baby at 27 weeks. When he was 10 months old he suddenly passed away and everyone on the board was feeling so sorry for her and tried to get a fund going so they could send her memorial funds. Luckily some women on the board who had suspected she was a fake came forward with all of this "evidence" they had collected (not being consistent with dates, names, etc) and put a stop to the whole thing.
It turned out the woman and her whole story was indeed a fake. She had been posting pictures of kids she found on the internet and passing them off as her own.

It still makes me sick to think about it.

    1. That's fraud! The crazy part is how easy all of this is to pull off!

  4. Weird. I have yet to encounter a fake blog, but I have had people steal content off of my site. I'm not sure why these people do what they do, it doesn't make sense to me.

    1. How did you find out about it? I'm always wondering if people steal my pictures since I don't bother to watermark them that often.

  6. Whoa...that lady has way too much time on her hands. I barely blog about my real life, let alone a fantasy one! :) Oh and my mom had a coworker fake a wedding to get vacation time! (years ago)

  8. So weird! People who are that attention needy really freak me out. I've not read ant fake blogs, but do know someone who made up a fake family. She said her kid died, but everyone knew she was lying when she showed up to work the day after the funeral and acted fine. Creepy!

  9. That is how I found you! I actually was the first to put a comment on her blog that the inconsistencies did not add up. She found out she was pregnant at 12 weeks then two weeks later jumped to 20 weeks. It was so very odd..

  10. That is totally crazy! I don't like that at all. I don't know that I've ever come across a blog like that because I tend to follow people I know. I think I might start using terms like "little man" and "husband" instead of real names...I don't know. Ugh.
