Camping

Chris came up with the idea to take a little family camping trip rather than exchange Mother/Father's Day gifts or wedding anniversary presents. It was an inexpensive option the whole family could enjoy. I was nervous. You hear so many awful stories that start out, "Remember that time we went camping...?"

We had gotten a tent as a wedding gift 6 years ago and had yet to use it! We were realistic. Only sleeping over one night and not too far from home.

I had thought there would be a water and electric hookup, but there wasn't. However, I luckily didn't depend on it. We packed and planned simply. Everything had to be cooked over the fire, so it was hot dogs, watermelon and smores for dinner. Toast and strawberries for breakfast. Then just bottled water and juice boxes for the kids.

My sister's were nearby and they joined us in the evening, even bringing their dog! We brought our dog Duke seen below.
The weather was perfect. Cold at night, but we knew that ahead of time and packed winter pjs, blankets and really warm sleeping bags.

They had a playground and mini golf course there, as well as a pool (the weather was too cold for swimming).
We all took a walk by the river around sunset.

The light was PERFECT.

Had to get one of us together on our 6th wedding anniversary!

Duke had fun too :)

There was a flashlight lollipop hunt that night for the kids! I was worried about how we would all sleep in one tent, but as soon as we put the kids down, they were fast asleep. I on the other hand spent the night tossing and turning. I couldn't get comfortable and I kept waking up to check the kids and make sure they were warm.
In all, we are talking about when we can do it again. It was $50 for the night and $10 for 10 pieces of firewood. So, an inexpensive and fun packed weekend.

  1. Only $50 that's pretty cheap! The area was nice too. We want to go too when the baby's older, it seemed fun.

  2. First of all stunning pictures as usual, secondly I am so glad you all had fun. I am NOT a camper, don't like it at all, but I have been a few times and the kids love it so I am sure there's another time or two in my future :)
