ModCloth Dress

I've been meaning to blog about this dress! I know a few people were asking about it after this post, but I knew I was going to wear it for family photos so I held off posting. This might surprise everyone, but I was NOT happy about this purchase. It was my first (and has been my last) purchase from ModCloth.
First, I ordered the smallest size they had and it was HUGE. I had to have it taken in so much which is why it doesn't lay correctly. I know I'm petite, but usually I'm pretty true to size.
Second, it was pricey! $100 for a basic dress. I would have been okay with the price, but the quality was absolutely horrible. It was so cheap feeling and definitely could never hold up in the wash. Even the tailor was concerned that she wouldn't be able to alter it because it was made so cheaply.
I was so bummed. Anyone else have less than a stellar experience with ModCloth? Their clothing looks so cute, but the quality was unacceptable. I'm usually a cheap shopper too (which was why the dress was a huge splurge for me), so I have low standards.
It photographed decently though which is what I needed it for. I would also say that it's quite a short cut. I'm about five feet, but if you're even a few inches taller than that the skirt would be short. I saw several people complaining about the same thing in their reviews.

  1. It is getting harder and harder to find good quality pieces - even at my old standbys of JCrew and Anthro. And the truly great high quality name brands like Vince or Splendid are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive! Though I've found some luck on ebay!

Also I cannot believe you're 5 ft! I thought you were like Camille! you look so willowy! :) you look beautiful.

    1. I'm super cheap. I'll admit I don't shop for quality, just cheap price. I don't own anything from Anthro or JCrew or places like that to be honest which was why I was so disappointed after investing and getting the same poor quality :/

  2. I've gotten a few dresses from there & I've been pleased so far - but I do agree that it's not amazing quality! The dress I wore for Abby's wedding was from Modcloth:)

  4. Wow! I'm surprised to hear this, although I've never personally ordered from ModCloth. Now I know not to! My closet is almost entirely from Target or Old Navy.
I'm also surprised you're only 5 ft! I thought always thought you were pretty tall! I'm 5'2" on a good day. :P

  5. I've ordered probably 5-6 times from Modcloth and loved every single one of them! I know they stock different brands so perhaps you just ended up with one of their lesser-quality ones. Too bad, really! Then again, I never buy anything of theirs full-price - I usually put a bunch in my "wishlist" and wait til one of them ends up in clearance!
