Yankee Candle vs. Bath & Body Works Candle

I had a free gift from Bath & Body Works recently as well as several coupons and free shipping, so I placed my first order. Yes, I've never purchased from them before!

I went with four hand washes which were on sale 4 for $4.50. I figured it would make a good holiday gift for Christopher's bus drivers/teachers under $5!

I also ordered three fall scented candles: Leaves, Sweater Weather and Pumpkin Cupcake. They were $11 each. Two candles equal the standard Yankee Candle $28 size.

B&BW's candles have three wicks per candle which makes a huge difference in burning evenly! They are lead free wicks too. Yankee only has one wick which causes uneven burning.

B&BW's candles give out so much more throw that Yankee. My whole house fills lightly with the scent. Yankee Candles only scent filled one-two rooms in my house.

The half sized B&BW candles gets much less black soot build up compared to the standard Yankee Candle and allows me to get two different scents for less than the price of one Yankee Candle.

I only burn candles September-December and I think I've converted from Yankee Candle to Bath & Body Works.

What's your favorite brand of candle? What's your favorite candle scent?

  1. I agree that the B&BW candles are more scented. The Yankee Candles, though, you are supposed to trim the wick every four hours to keep them burning evenly. (A cashier at a Yankee store told me that.) Sometimes, depending on the scent, the B&BW candles are too strong for me.

    Verdict?

I like them both. Especially the Yankee Candle outlet stores where I can get a giant jar candle for less than the 3-wick large ones at B&BW.

    1. Yes, I do keep the wicks short but still it's a problem. I think the jarred candles are too deep for only one wick and that's why they get soot build up and burn unevenly. I'll try the three wick Yankee version and see if they are any better!

  2. I totally agree! I just started burning BBW candles this fall and I like them much better than Yankee. I feel like Yankee aren't ask fragrant as they used to be. I'm glad someone else agrees and it's not just all in my head!

    1. I agree! I feel like the Yankee Candles have been going up and up in price, but the quality is lowering in terms of fragrance.

  3. I went to a Scentsy party a few years ago so I've been using the Scentsy warmers instead of candles since then. We have one warmer upstairs and one downstairs and I should probably get one for the basement. Sometimes I miss having a simple candle to burn but I do enjoy that I can stock up on different scents and change them out depending on what I want the house to smell like!

  4. How are you liking Sweater Weather? Bought it for my future sister-in-law and she's obsessed!

    1. I didn't light it yet! I've tried Leaves and Pumpkin Cupcake so far, but I'm excited about Sweater Weather. It has a unique scent that's so fresh. Thanks for the recommendation :)

    2. Any time! My dad doesn't like candles (they make him stuffy) so I haven't been able to buy any in ages. That all changes when we move into our new place in January though. I'm just going to buy a ton and light them all at once!

  5. Standard Yankees are 22 oz & Bath & body 3 wicks are 14.5 oz. I'd say Yankees are 33% larger than Bath & Body Works. With YC being twice the price, plus!

  6. Yankee Candle large jars 1 wick burns 150 hours. YC 2 wick burns 85 hours. BBW 3 wick burn 45 hours

    1. Yes, the burn time with BBW is definitely less, but the scent they give off is more powerful. I'd trade less burn time for more powerful fragrance and throw.

  7. I work at a bath and body works as an assistant manager so I maybe a little bias here, but our candles are amazing! And made with a 100% vegetable based wax! I burn them whenever I am home and am so addicted!

  8. I've worked for both businesses, worked for BBW for over 3 years, after becoming employed with Yankee I was skeptical about the product, honestly now all I use is Yankee Candle product, by far, it is a superior home fragrance company. I would suggest giving it another try.
